“Cortijo Hoya Grande”, our cottage on a 40000m2 cherry farm, which includes 400 cherry trees, the bunkhouse, a stable and outbuildings, a trout pond and a paddock, stands at 1500 metres which is approximately the height of Ben Nevis in Scotland!
Whilst we do see snow and cold temperatures here in the winter months, we benefit from our southern Spanish location in spring, summer and autumn, making it a perfect climate for activity holidays.
We are situated on the northern approaches to the Sierra Nevada mountains, with the nearest village being Guejar Sierra (approximately 20 minutes by car).
We are also close to the city of Granada (approximately 40 minutes by car), which is well worth a visit on a rest day. Sights include the famous Alhambra fortress/palace complex, an evocative remnant of Granada’s Moorish past.
Alternatively the visitor could explore the narrow, ancient streets of the Albayzin, the old Islamic quarter and take in the spectacular and famous view of the Alhambra from the Mirador San Nicolas, or visit the innumerable and beautiful architectural gems, shop in the “souk” style market area or just hang out in one of the many “plazas” and enjoy the renowned “tapas” as you sip your drink and watch the world go by. |
